At Carson Patents, we specialize in offering comprehensive patent application services for our clients. Veterans, active duty personnel, and their families get 25% off on our patent application services. This discount applies to our five steps to patent, which includes the prior art search, patentability study, patent application writing, patent application filing, and patent prosecution. The military and veteran discount also applies to all post grant patent services. Please note that the discount does not apply to USPTO filing fees.
Prior Art Search and Patentability Study
The prior art search is the first step of our patent application process, which involves finding all products and inventions that are similar to your invention. We then perform a patentability study to determine the products and inventions that most closely relate to your invention. This helps us determine whether your invention meets the four patentability criteria: patent eligible subject matter, useful, novel, and non-obvious.
Patent Application Writing and Filing
We specialize in writing thorough and well-crafted patent applications. This process involves drafting the specifications, claims, and drawings (if necessary) to put together a strong and proper application. The application must contain a description that provides a complete explanation of how to make and use the invention as it is claimed. We handle the entire drafting and filing process for our clients.
Patent Prosecution Pre-Grant Patent Services
Prosecuting a patent application involves communicating with the USPTO after a patent application is filed to make the application ready for approval. In this process, our USPTO registered attorney represents an application through the end of the application process. Our team responds to office actions from the patent office, addressing any concerns of the examiners. We also appeal any examination decisions and conduct opposition, reissue, or reexamination proceedings. Our veteran discount applies for all attorney fees incurred during patent prosecution.
Post Grant Patent Maintenance Services
Our 25% veterans discount also applies to all post grant patent services. This includes monitoring patents for potential infringers, negotiating licensing agreements and contracts, and pursuing infringement lawsuits.
Patent Application FAQs for Veteran and Active Duty Inventors
Securing a patent is an effective way to protect your invention, but the process can be challenging, especially for first-time applicants. Here, we address frequently asked questions about patents and the application process, specifically tailored for military veterans and active duty military personnel.
Yes, if you are an active duty military personnel, you can patent your invention. If you develop something off base or site, during your own time, without using military resources, and unrelated to your official duties, then you can apply for a patent and own your invention.
However, if any of the following applies to you, any patent issued for your invention will belong to the military:
The invention was something related to your job and/or something you developed on duty.
You used the military’s facilities to develop the idea.
You have signed an agreement that the military owns any inventions you create.
If you are still unsure whether you can apply for a patent for y
If it is confirmed that the patent for your invention will be assigned to you rather than the military, you can follow our usual five-step patent application process to protect your invention.
Patent application services are typically provided on a fixed quote basis. The costs to patent vary widely depending on the kind of invention being patented and whether office actions are issued. On top of our competitive rates, our military and veteran discounts result in reduced costs for veterans, active duty military personnel, and their families.
We offer a 25% discount on all of our patent application services fees (excluding USPTO filing fees) for veterans, active duty personnel, and their families.
While it is possible to handle certain aspects of the patent application process yourself, it is strongly recommended to work with a registered patent practitioner (patent agent or patent attorney) for the entire application process. This can significantly increase your likelihood of a successful application. Additionally, some parts of the application process can only be executed by a qualified patent professional.
It is possible to conduct the first step of the patenting process, the prior art patent search, yourself. However, we suggest working with a USPTO registered patent practitioner for this step, because they can help you establish a strong foundation for your application, saving time and resources later on in the application process.
It is also strongly recommended to work with a patent practitioner to write and file your application, as producing a high-quality application can save time and money in the long run. Additionally, note that only a licensed patent attorney or patent agent can prosecute a patent on your behalf.
Our USPTO registered patent attorney can provide expert assistance at any and every stage of the patent application process, and our veteran discount makes the process more accessible for inventors associated with the military.
